PianoPushPlay2020

a dream of mine has been to paint a work of art with @PianoPushPlay. The summer of 2020 offered herself up as an opportunity for just that. Located in Portland, Oregon, the project selects local artists to share their work by repurposing tired pianos into works of art. These pianos are then set out at various locations around the city for all to create music on and enjoy.

I definitely saw this project as a way to merge my love for my city and community with my creative experience as a painter and mother and teacher.  My three young assistants helped along the way with both the piano's concept and with the hands-on creative process.  The piano's title/theme is You Are My Sunshine, a tune sung to me by my mother and that I sing to my three daughters.  I love a cloudy Portland day about as much as anybody, so it's been a perfect blend of looking for the bright spots and soaking up the nourishing rain during the ups and downs of 2020.
